Relationship testing of this kind provides an answer to the question, “Do these people share the same parents?” It’s possible that a mother remarried had a child with a different man, or had a sperm donor.
Parental testing is not always feasible. The children may have no interaction with their original father or mother. The parents may be dead. They could also object to being tested. Siblings’ genetic testing can confirm or deny sibship, which can be useful for legal purposes and peace of mind.
